Meg’s longtime boyfriend, Dave Shapland, confirmed her death in a statement on Thursday. He said, “Without a doubt, she was Britain’s most famous astrologer by a million miles. Nobody came close to Meg in that way. Millions of people in this country and around the world followed her.”
Margaret was born July 27, 1942, in Accrington, Lancashire. She learned astrology from her grandmother when she was growing up. After graduating from the University of Leeds, Meg worked as a sub-editor at the News of the World. The psychic became famous in 1994 when the National Lottery Draw was first shown on BBC One. She stayed on the show until 2000 and used to guess things about the lottery winner before they were officially announced. Meg continued to be an astrologer for News of the World until the paper was shut down in 2011.
Her predictions also made it into the newspapers in the US and Australia. The astrologer was known for her unique runes, crystal balls, tarot cards, and I Ching. She also wrote several books, including Mystic Meg’s Lucky Numbers for Love, Life, and the Lottery and Mystic Meg’s Astrolife.
